About
Crispy on the Outside is an unsavory helping of opinionated slop, dishing each weekday on everything from what’s worth eating to what’s worth watching on TV to which foods and gadgets are making news, all while reserving space to blast silly vegans and know-it-all nannies who try to tell us what we can and can’t eat.
About Baylen Linnekin
Crispy on the Outside is written by Baylen Linnekin, a Washington, DC law student, writer, and (inadequately self-trained) cook. Baylen has interviewed chef/author/TV host Anthony Bourdain and written about the canard of Chicago’s foie gras ban. Though he’s met chefs like Bourdain, José Andrés, Michelle Richard, and Jamie Oliver, he’s particularly jealous of his mom, who met Julia Child.
When he was in college, Baylen worked at the first Starbucks east of Chicago when it was the only Starbucks east of Chicago. Baylen sports a tattoo of a steaming cup of coffee on his arm, modeled after a ceramic Dunkin’ Donuts mug he stole from a Cambridge, Mass., Dunkies when he was in high school. Though Baylen hates writing about himself in the third person, he will do so in order to convince you that he invented chocolate-covered bacon, and to let you know he is a mostly unsuccessful organic gardener.
When he finishes law school, Baylen hopes to defend the rights of restaurateurs, bar owners, food sellers, chefs, farmers, and diners.
About Jerry Brito
Crispy on the Outside is produced by Jerry Brito, a DC lawyer and academic with apparently a lot of time on his hands. Jerry loves Macs and the web almost as much as he likes to eat, so this is his chance to forge a wonderful combination–like bacon and chocolate. He’s the dude behind Unclutterer, In Conversation, Paperclippy, and a bunch of other sites. If something breaks, it’s probably his fault.
