This Week in Bacon

Chocolate and bacon. One of the best combinations of sweet and savory there is. Although mixing chocolate and bacon is nothing new, the Arkansas State Fair, a ten-day extravaganza that kicks off this weekend, added a new little number to their list of tasty treats this year: Pig Lickers.

Food fans always have new taste treats to tempt them each year, with a buzz developing over “Pig Lickers,” a sort of circular bacon on a stick, designed for dipping into a vat of chocolate, and then adorned with sea salt.

There’s something for everyone at the fair, even if you’re an out-of-towner.

City folks who want to show their kids things like cows being milked can ease down to the Milking Parlor in the livestock area, also home to the Cattle, Rabbit and Chicken Barns, the EquestrianCenter, the Dairy Goat Barn and Goat Center, Livestock Judging, Odom’s Tennessee Pride Swine Facility and the Ag in Action Agricultural Education Center for Children.

A new event will be the Arkansas Wine Competition, matching Arkansas’ seven wineries in 106 wine categories; a special wine tasting event will be at 3 p.m. Sunday.

Wine, bacon, and chocolate, oh my! Sounds like folks in Little Rock are going to have one helluva week.
